HP M605 Series Paper Jams

HP M605 Paper Jams: Common Causes and Troubleshooting

HP M605 paper jams can occur as the printer ages or after processing a high volume of pages. The HP LaserJet Enterprise M605 is designed for demanding office environments, but worn rollers, improperly loaded paper, damaged sheets, or paper-path obstructions can eventually cause feeding problems.

If your HP M605 keeps jamming, the location of the jam can often help identify the cause. Below are several basic troubleshooting steps you can try before scheduling professional printer repair.

If the paper jam is coming from Tray 1, first stop the print job and carefully inspect the tray and visible paper path.

Slowly remove the jammed paper without using excessive force. Make sure no torn pieces of paper remain inside the printer.

Before reloading the tray, check that the paper is clean, dry, and properly aligned. Damaged, curled, or damp paper can contribute to repeated feeding problems.

Clear Paper Jams in Tray 2 and 500-Sheet Trays

If the HP M605 is jamming from Tray 2 or one of the optional 500-sheet trays, follow these steps:

  1. Pull the affected tray completely out of the printer, lifting it slightly as necessary.
  2. Look inside the feed area for jammed or partially fed paper. If you can see the edge of the paper, remove it slowly and carefully to avoid tearing it.
  3. Inspect the surrounding paper path for small pieces of paper that may have been left behind from an earlier jam.
  4. Check the paper inside the tray. It should lie flat and remain below the maximum paper-height indicators.
  5. Make sure the paper guides are adjusted correctly so they lightly touch the paper without bending it.
  6. Reinsert the tray completely and print a test page.

If the printer jams again in the same location, there may be a mechanical feeding problem rather than simply improperly loaded paper.

Why Does an HP M605 Keep Jamming?

Recurring HP M605 paper jams can have several causes. Common problems include worn pickup or feed rollers, damaged paper, incorrect tray settings, paper debris inside the printer, and aging paper-feed components.

One important clue is whether the paper repeatedly stops in the same location. Consistent jams from the same tray or area can indicate that a roller or another component in that section of the paper path needs inspection.

Check the Paper Before Assuming the Printer Is Broken

You can also review HP’s recommended paper specifications and troubleshooting information for your printer model on the HP Support website.

Make sure you are using paper appropriate for the printer and that it has been stored in a dry environment. This is particularly important in humid climates such as South Florida, where paper can absorb moisture and become more difficult to feed reliably.

Avoid overfilling the tray and remove any sheets that are curled, folded, damaged, or sticking together.

When Does an HP M605 Need Professional Repair?

If you’ve cleared the paper path and correctly reloaded the trays but the printer continues to jam, the problem may require professional diagnosis.

Consider having the printer inspected if:

  • Paper repeatedly jams in the same tray or location.
  • The printer frequently feeds multiple sheets.
  • Paper does not feed even though the tray is loaded correctly.
  • You hear unusual clicking or grinding noises.
  • The printer displays a jam message when no paper is visible.
  • The pickup or feed rollers appear worn or no longer grip the paper properly.
